Have you ever wondered why certain foods just "hit the spot"? What is it about those foods and how you were feeling at the time that was so incredibly satisfying? I believe that by following our intuition we can nourish our bodies, minds, and souls with healthy food, physical activity, education, prayer and meditation. In my opinion and experience, eating healthy does not have to be consuming raw salads all of the time or exercising for hours everyday. Rather, it is what we do most of the time that matters. Our bodies respond to an accumulation of how we treat them. For instance, incorporating a variety of fruits like apples and bananas, vegetables like spinach and broccoli, whole grains like quinoa and brown rice, and lean proteins like chicken and fish into your diet, and engaging in activities like walking, swimming, or stretching can be beneficial. Eating a doughnut once in a while will not do too much damage. Eating multiple doughnuts daily will not set anyone up for an optimal way of living.
Not a fan of exercise? Don't lose hope. It's possible you just haven't found the right type for you yet. The joy of discovering an activity that gets your heart rate up and starts building your muscles is unparalleled. Keep an open mind and explore the possibilities, like walking on the beach with your friends, hiking with your dog, or playing soccer with your kids. The right exercise is out there waiting for you.
Ever feel like you're constantly swinging between overwork and excessive rest? It's a common struggle, but there are ways to find a more balanced routine in your daily life. Remember, your current situation is just a chapter in your life, and it's likely to be temporary. This realization can bring a sense of reassurance and optimism. As the saying goes, 'Everything in moderation, including moderation.'
My journey for intuitive living actually began with me coming down with the flu.
These flu-like symptoms seemed to have come on suddenly, though I could feel my energy draining and the aches intensifying with every passing hour.
About halfway through the day, I had an extreme craving for a red bell pepper. In my previous experiences, sick cravings included homemade chicken noodle soup and some peppermint tea. I've never had a problem with bell peppers, though I cannot say I had ever craved one before.
Leaving school mid-day, I called my mom to ask her if we had any red bell peppers at home. She informed me there were green peppers in the fridge. This would not do. I needed a red one. I stopped at the store and purchased exactly one red bell pepper. The cashier must have thought, "what kind of 17-year-old buys one bell pepper and nothing else?" Feeling more achey and slightly feverish, upon coming home, I sliced up the delectable looking vegetable, ate it, and to my pleasant surprise felt 100% better within 5 minutes. Needless to say, I was happily confused, and consumed with various questions ranging from "What on Earth?" to "How is this possible?!" I realized that my body knew what it needed before I did.
As wonderful as this story is, it does not mean that we will all always get better immediately after eating a red bell pepper. It does, however, amplify the positive effects of listening to our bodies.
My journey to becoming a Certified Nutrition Consultant through Bauman College, in Emeryville, CA, was a personal one. It began when I felt ill, ate a red bell pepper, and almost instantly felt better. This experience ignited my passion for holistic nutrition, and I am excited to say that I am now a BCHN (Candidate).*
Before stepping into the role of a Nutrition Consultant, I dedicated 13 years to the field of education, six of which I served as Assistant Principal. This experience, coupled with my master's degree in education, fueled my passion for educating children, parents, and school staff on the transformative power of holistic nutrition. Holistic nutrition, which focuses on the whole person and not just their symptoms, can improve energy levels, better digestion, and a more robust immune system. What started as a weekend hobby of researching and sharing about healthy eating and holistic living soon became a burning passion. I decided to formalize my knowledge by pursuing a certification in holistic nutrition and building a practice around it.
I enjoy educating others on living intuitively (paying attention to the body's cues) and building an intentional lifestyle to support optimal health. This is an ever-evolving process; as we learn about ourselves, grow, and achieve our ambitions, the cycle begins again at a new level, and we continue the progression. Sometimes, we fall down and get back up on our own; other times, we need someone to help support and guide us.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition. We all have unique needs based on food allergies, sensitivities, medical conditions, injuries, energy levels, and personal preferences. I am here to provide personalized guidance and support, understanding that your journey to optimal health is unique. Together, we can work towards regaining the quality of life you seek.
Our journey together starts with an initial consultation where we discuss your health goals, dietary preferences, and any health concerns. From there, I will create a personalized nutrition plan for you and provide ongoing support and guidance, ensuring you always have the resources and encouragement you need as you work towards your goals.
*BCHN (Candidate) stands for Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition (Candidate). I have passed the board exam and am working on the necessary client contact hours in order to be fully certified.
