How a Red Bell Pepper Changed Everything

Danielle Puno’s path to becoming a holistic nutritionist didn’t begin in a classroom — it began with a craving.

During a bout of illness, her body did something unexpected: instead of reaching for comfort food, she had an overwhelming craving for a red bell pepper. She stopped at the store, brought one home, ate it — and felt completely better within five minutes. Not from medicine. Not from rest. From listening to what her body was asking for.

That moment sparked a question she couldn’t let go of: what else is my body trying to tell me?

It led her to Bauman College in Emeryville, California, where she earned her certification as a Nutrition Consultant — and eventually to Board Certification in Holistic Nutrition® through the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP). Before dedicating herself full-time to nutrition, Danielle spent 13 years in education, earning a master’s degree and teaching children, parents, and school staff about the connection between food and health. That background shapes how she works with clients today: with patience, clarity, and a genuine gift for making complex nutrition concepts actionable.

What started as a weekend passion for researching and sharing about holistic living became Intuitive Health Holistic Nutrition — a practice built on one foundational belief: your body already knows what it needs. The work is learning to listen.

My Approach: Root-Cause Nutrition, Not Generic Protocols

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition — and I’ve never believed there was. Every person who walks through my door (or joins me on a virtual call) comes with a unique combination of health history, food sensitivities, hormonal patterns, medical conditions, lifestyle demands, and personal goals. Your plan has to reflect that. Anything less is guesswork.

My work is grounded in the understanding that your body is always communicating with you. Cravings, inflammation, fatigue, skin reactions, digestive issues, mood changes, disrupted sleep — these aren’t random. They are signals. When hormones are imbalanced, when nutrient deficiencies go unaddressed, when the gut-hormone connection is disrupted, the whole system feels it. My job is to help you decode what your body is telling you and build a nutritional and lifestyle foundation that actually responds to it.

I use functional lab testing alongside a comprehensive health intake to understand what’s happening beneath the surface — not just what’s visible in your symptoms. From there, I create an individualized nutrition plan informed by evidence-based practice, whole-food principles, and a deep respect for how your physical, mental, and emotional health all connect.

I also believe that sustainable health is built in the long run, not overnight. Small, consistent changes compound into real results. Eating well most of the time matters far more than perfect adherence all of the time. My goal is never to overwhelm you — it’s to help you build habits that become second nature. Intuitive, even.
